Being outside is how I tick, how I breathe, and how I survive. My love and respect of the natural world was formed at an early age through parents and grandparents. With pail in hand, we took in the clues left by nature and learned to be respectful of our place in it. Perhaps, that day's treasures included: rocks, fossils, bird calls, and wild scents. My deepest passion is to be a steward of this precious earth and to teach others how to as well.
My physical journey has taken me through the rolling farm hills of the Midwest, over the covered bridges of the Northeast, through the Gulf Coast, and onto the Southwest. Along the way, I found marriage, motherhood, and my passion for teaching young children in a classroom environment. Writing children's books is a natural extension for me to continue sharing helpful knowledge and tools for many years to come.
We are all stewards of this amazing planet we not only call Earth, but HOME! Writing children's picture books that incorporate conservation, life cycles with their beginnings and endings, is an extension of my love for teaching, no matter what my classroom resembles – on a shared blanket under a tree or on a bookstore's Storytime stage. It is important to me to write age-appropriate books for young children. I hope that these stories will inspire children and the adults who read to them to spend as much time as possible outside, enjoying, connecting with, and caring for nature. Embrace the sunshine, embrace the rain, embrace the bugs, embrace the thistles, embrace the mud, and dirty shoes! I want my love for nature, as expressed through books, to be contagious.
